The Brief
Maria Catarino had a problem. She started a wonderful charity that enhances the quality of life for children living with cancer, brain tumours, and terminal illnesses by providing music and art therapy free of charge. Her focus was on the great work she and the volunteers were doing, but time and time again she was receiving negative reviews about her website. It was difficult to navigate, unattractive and just didn’t have the right “feel”. She contacted me to help take her charity’s website to the next level.
The Approach
It was especially important to get the right feel for this website. It needed to be focused on the kids, but also not so childish that it would make light of the tremendous work that the charity provided for the community. In creating a brand new design for the Catarino House website, I focused on a design that featured bright fresh colours, functional elements and playful fonts. I also simplified the navigation menu, combined together similar pages, cleaned up and reorganized content, added a sponsor page, integrated her existing blog and added Search Engine Optimization to the new and existing content.

The Result
Maria and the Board of Directors loved the new design as well as the restructuring of the site’s content. Since then Maria has contact me about several other graphic design projects to use the website’s design throughout the charity’s branding.
Testimonial
Heather gets a 10 out of 10 because she goes above and beyond when creating a website! She listens to the client, gets to really understand their business and then gives suggestions on how to make the website even better! I have gotten so many compliments for our new website from community members and sponsors! Thank you for doing an amazing job!Maria Catarino, Catarino House
